Artur Akhmetov is a jazz guitarist, composer, and bandleader based in New York City. Born in 1985 in Bashkortostan, he began studying jazz at sixteen in Moscow, taking his first degree at the Gnessin College of Music before heading west.
In the Netherlands he earned his bachelor's at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam — working with players like Jesse van Ruller, Michael Moore, Peter Beets, Marc van Roon, Joris Teepe, and Jonathan Kreisberg — and completed a master's in jazz performance at the Prince Claus Conservatoire, leading his own sextet and touring its original music across Europe.
Since 2018 he has called New York home, leading his own group through the city's rooms and collaborating with musicians such as Boris Kozlov, Steve LaSpina, and Dmitri Kolesnik — after stages across the Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, and China, from Amsterdam's Bimhuis to festivals like Eurosonic and China's JZ Festival.
The music itself sits between the straight-ahead tradition and something more personal — melody first, played close.
